This Is What We Imagine (TIWWI for short, pronounced teewee) is the name of an art and video collective based in Los Angeles. Members of TIWWI have talents and passions that, much like the state of the universe, are in constant expansion and infinite in spirit.
If you have ever been involved with a TIWWI project, consider yourself a life-long member.
TIWWI's Sam Molleur and Joe Yaeger recently completed this creative endeavor using a poem called "Reunion" written by Joe and an idea by Sam called "backward moment suspension" (clearly full of crap). Check out the video below and more info about the process and such over at Sam's website. Enjoy!
Ah, wonderful phenomena to feast your imaginations on this Wednesday afternoon. Apparently almost every night in Marfa, Texas, these "ghost lights" appear on the horizon in a specific distant location in the small town with a population of just over 2,000. Myths of these observations span all the way back to the mid 19th century, yet scientists still haven't been able to fully explain the origins of these mysterious lights. (Although the Society of Physics Students kind of debunked it, explaining it was merely automobile lights from US route 67.)
Regardless, lots of skeptics and all out defenders of the lights find their own truths in the strange sightings. And that's all that matters I suppose. Check out tons more info about the lights here and here. We'd like to think that the lights are lost souls wandering about the Texas desert. As we used to say a while back..."this looks like a case for TIWWI."
For now, we'll leave you with two videos, one a mini-doc about the Marfa Lights, another of Edward Sharpe and Magnetic Zeros visiting Marfa, Texas. While they don't see any lights, it's still a wonderful vid.
Made something recently you wish you could share in front of a huge crowd of fellow friends and creators?
Well that's what TIWWI's SHOW+TELLs are now all about. We're opening a new door to allow anyone the opportunity to showcase whatever project they're excited about with all of us.
Send us a link or informative email about your creation and we'll consider it for our upcoming SHOW+TELL! Shoot it on over to hello@tiwwi.com!
Deadline for submissions is:.... MONDAY, AUGUST 9TH!
Questions? Read below...
- What kinds of projects will be considered? Anything! Whatever your imagination dreams up - whether it's a music video, documentary, art installation, photography, interpretive dance, music performance - count us as interested.
- Does it have to be a "TIWWI" project? Absolutely not. Our SHOW+TELLs will no longer be exclusively about Weekends of Wonderment or ReVisions or TIWWI based endeavors. Consider this an open invitation to share something to a huge group of wonderful people.
- What if my project isn't finished? No worries, send us as finished a version as you can. Finished projects will need to be delivered to us by the week of August 28th - we'll keep you informed if we're able to include your creation into the evening's lineup. If it's a video - upload whatever latest cut or teaser of it to a video hosting site and send us the link. If it's anything else - send us an email with visuals so we can get a good idea of what the finished project will entail.
- Will every project be chosen? We hope so! Depending on the time and space limitations and the amount of submissions we receive, we will be choosing the projects we think best fit our program and best encapsulate the spirit of what we try to do and what we think people will be most excited to see.
- Does it need to be a "premiere"? Not necessarily. But, as we said before - we'll be selecting the projects we think everyone will be most excited about. With that in mind, if your video already has a million hits on YouTube and everyone + their Mom's dogs have seen it already, we'll probably be less inclined to share it.
- Who do I email about my project? Boy, you need to read more carefully. No, we kid. Email hello@tiwwi.com !
- What if I've already shown you my project? Then no worries! We already got it!
This time around, we'll be focusing on projects that are ReVisions-themed. And you probably ask, "what are 'ReVisions'?"
ReVisions are memory reenactment experiments that ask the creator to re-imagine a memory in a new, creative way as a method to preserve those moments dearest to us. Check out a link to more information about them here! Got a project you'd like to do that's not necessarily memory-themed? No worries, we'll still of course put you in the schedule and help - we'll be pursuing themes as means to ignite us creatively, not to place limits on what we can do.
DEADLINE FOR IDEAS IS MONDAY, JULY 5TH. Let us know what you're making so we can include you in the schedule! Email wow@tiwwi.com !
Got any questions about the process? No worries, feel free to read over our latest email blast with everything you could ever wonder about what these weekends entail. And of course - you can view our behind the scenes video from our last Weekend of Wonderment to see what these kids look like.
Soaring through Michel Gondry's 2nd DVD of his work, you can find a wonderful, charming animated gem he created for the Forum des Images. It's a beautiful, typical Gondry-esque swirling tale about the history of the universe, lovingly including his classic "walking building" image prevalent throughout most of his career.
And while we're at it, we had to share his latest project called THE THORN IN THE HEART, primarily about his family life. Have your idea books open, pens ready, and a box of tissues nearby.
It's hard to pick a poison, but Bourbon will always land somewhere on the top of the list. So you can imagine our excitement over the recent opening of Thirsty Crow, a whiskey/bourbon bar, just minutes from home base. With a lush aesthetic reminiscent of our favorite Cedd Moses downtown watering holes and a menu featuring a full page of old fashions and Manhattans, it would be tough for this place to disappoint- and it didn't. The bar was cozy; full but not crowded, wonderfully dark and surprisingly casual. And even before we finished (and thoroughly enjoyed) a few Marmalade Manhattans and Thirsty Crows, we discovered another reason to return: the bar features live jazz on Sundays from 1-4pm, while serving Bloody Mary's and mimosa's. They even recommend grabbing your brunch togo from Local (just next door), and bringing it back to complete the picture.
Not a drinking-in-the-afternoon type of person? You can come back later that evening from 9pm-Close for a weekly session of "Whiskey Education". For us, that means running the risk of staying all day.
In tribute to the massive sink hole that opened up in Guatemala earlier this week, we give you 3 other fascinating earthly swallows. Why the interest in morose geological phenomena? How could you not be intrigued by spontaneous circles giving way to earth's fragility, uncovering the mysteries of our core? The Great Blue Hole served as a treasure trove for Jacques Cousteau, the perfect holes of Sarisarinama have perplexed scientists for centuries, and The Devil's Sinkhole in Texas was revered as sacred grounds to local Native Americans.
This maybe old hat for some, but for those of you watching for the first time, be prepared to have your heart strings tugged by an energy source for the first time.
Things unfinished. So much more info about this untitled endeavor over at this UNDISCLOSED LOCATION. Can anything be infinitely randomized? Probably not, but there's no harm in trying.
