Although we may associate the Beverly Center with high profile rap- shootings or shopping scenes from Clueless, it was once the site of a quaint family amusement park. We'll let PBS finish the rest...

Early Jim Henson
From 1957- 1961 Jim Henson made over 170 commercials (each only about 10 seconds long) for Wilkins Coffee, with original characters "Wilkins" and "Wontkins".
Suprising violent and wonderfully dark, these are a neat little glimpse into his early years...
Road Trip Adventure: The Salton Sea

Nightmarish Desert Wasteland? Yes. Largest inland body of water in California, epicenter of recent geological activity, and ghost town playground of endless neglect? Sign us up. Although we may not be scooting over there in the super near future, the Salton Sea is on our radar of places to explore. How could you not be curious to see the remains of a place that was once more popular than Yosemite National Park?
For all those who have gone before, any recommendations? The dinosaur park is #1 so far...
For more Salton Sea love, check out the intriguing editorial in the ReVamp LA's issue from last summer. Styling magic by our very own Claire Bergkamp!

SHAMPOO!

Although it seems we inadvertently made this 1960s appreciation week, it's safe to say we would have posted our excitement for the New Beverly screenings of Shampoo this Sunday & Monday evenings regardless. It's one half of a double bill with Boogie Nights, all as a part of a guest curation by Jason Reitman.
Whether you go for Hal Ashby, Goldie Hawn, Julie Christie, Warren Betty, or the genius art direction of Richard Sylbert (eh hem), it's an excellent choice for a rainy Sunday evening.
See you there?

Found- 1960s Sunset Strip

Quick update on our last post, in our search for a sister film to swinging London, we give you this. It starts off much like Look at Life, but then takes a prolonged, darker turn.
From Swinging London
"Anyone addressed as Madame would probably sue for defamation of character."
Found this gem via our good friend and kindred spirit Tina (of scout minami), currently living the dream over in London. As a part of the British documentary series Look At Life, this used to play in movie houses before a feature. The cheeky, semi-silly narration is that of the late Michael Ingrams, who was busy creating the first-ever reality television drama (Our Street) and gaining unprecedented film footage of the post- Stalin Russia when he wasn't covering consumer subcultures of London. Check out another Look At Life, featuring Sid James.
We searched and searched for a comparable version of swingin' Los Angeles in the 60s, but mostly turned up videos of the Manson Family and newsreel of the Watts Riots.

Hey...remember when? Yes? Hm.

TIWWI's currently wrapping up and preparing a new, wonderful webseries called "Remember When". Yes! It was written by TIWWI friends ELISHA YAFFE and CURT NEILL, directed by SAM MOLLEUR, production design by Hillary Gurtler and produced by all of the above. Cinematography by the amazing LARKIN SEIPLE with help from the equally amazing ANDREW J. WHITTAKER. Yes, yes.
It's a terrific episodic story about the misadventures of a group of pals who try to recreate their best friend's memories after an amnesia-inducing wrestling accident. Starring the ridiculously funny RANDY LIEDTKE, ALEX BARRETT, ELISHA YAFFE, CURT NEILL, CODI ELIZABETH FISCHER, BRENDON WALSH and others others others.
Please feel free to check out all our photos from the shoots here on FLICKR!
Expect a premiere at TIWWI's next SHOW+TELL - Saturday, March 13th - 9:00pm at the Rec Center Studio in Echo Park. So many details about that soon. Thanks for reading!
